Our Services & Procedures
At the London Circumcision Centre, we provide a full range of procedures for adult men and boys aged 16-18 years old.
Each treatment is performed by experienced surgeons or urologists using advanced techniques to ensure optimal results.
1. Adult Male Circumcision
We offer a range of surgical methods, including glue, stitches, stapler (ZSR, CirCurer), sleeve, freehand, and forceps-guided techniques. We also advise on different styles, such as high or low cut, tight or loose, which are discussed during consultation.
2. Preputioplasty
A surgical alternative for mild to moderate phimosis (tight foreskin) that avoids full circumcision. Preputioplasty preserves the foreskin while improving comfort and function.
3. Frenuloplasty
A procedure to treat short frenulum (frenulum breve), allowing pain relief from a torn frenulum and improved sexual function.
4. Circumcision Revision
Corrective surgery for patients who are unhappy with the results of a previous circumcision. This may involve correcting uneven scars, skin bridges, or excess foreskin.
5. Circumcision for BXO (Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans)
Specific treatment for BXO, a scarring condition of the foreskin and glans. Circumcision is often recommended as the management option.
6. Circumcision After Penile Fillers
Removal of scarred or damaged foreskin tissue with a tight foreskin following dermal filler injections migrated to the foreskin.
7. Penoscrotal Web Repair
Surgical correction of penoscrotal webbing, acquired after excessive circumcision, to relieve the pain and to put a condom on during sexual activities.
Common Reasons for Adult Circumcision
Many men choose or require circumcision later in life for medical, personal, or cultural reasons. The most common include:
- Phimosis – a tight foreskin that cannot be retracted over the tip of the penis.
- Recurrent balanitis – repeated inflammation or infection of the foreskin and glans, often linked with diabetes.
- Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO) – a chronic scarring condition affecting the foreskin and penis head.
- Paraphimosis – when the foreskin becomes trapped in a retracted position and cannot be pulled forward, causing a swollen penis.
- Sexual health concerns – some men choose circumcision for improved hygiene, STI prevention, or reduced discomfort during sex.
- Frenulum breve – a short frenulum that may cause pain, tears or bleeding during erections or intercourse.
- Personal preference – for appearance, comfort, or personal reasons.
- Religious or cultural reasons – some patients undergo circumcision as part of their faith or tradition.
- Before penile filler treatment, circumcision may be advised before procedures for girth enhancement.
Circumcision Procedure & Anaesthesia
Before surgery, every patient undergoes a preoperative assessment, which includes a detailed review of their medical history to ensure fitness and achieve the best possible outcome.
We will ask about:
- Family history of bleeding disorders
- Medications such as antiplatelet or blood-thinning drugs, and long-term steroids
- Allergies to medications, such as penicillin
- Urinary problems or difficulty passing urine
- Diabetes
- Previous heart surgery
- Artificial joints or other implanted devices
- Neurosurgical shunts
Patients are also advised to take 500 mg of Vitamin C, three times a week, before surgery to support recovery.
Anaesthesia
- Circumcision is performed under local anaesthesia, meaning patients remain awake but feel no pain during the procedure.
- The anaesthetic is injected at the base and around the shaft of the penis, providing effective pain relief for 1–4 hours after the operation.
For needle-phobic patients, we also provide a needleless anaesthesia option.
Procedure
- Once the anaesthesia takes effect, the foreskin is carefully removed using an incision just behind the head of the penis, leaving the glans permanently exposed.
- Techniques available include glue, stitches, a ZSR stapler, the CirCurer device, a sleeve, and freehand methods.
- Dr A. R. Khan was the first surgeon in the UK to receive simulation training with the CircCurer stapler device in 2019, offering advanced options for patients who prefer the stapler ZSR circumcision.
This modern approach ensures the procedure is precise and pain-free, with most men resuming normal activities within a few weeks of the recovery period.
Styles of Circumcision
Adult circumcision can be performed in different styles, depending on medical need, patient preference, and body anatomy. During your consultation, our surgeons will explain the options and advise you on what is most suitable for your needs.
High vs Low Cut
- High Cut: leaves a longer area of inner foreskin, with the scar positioned away from the head of the penis.
- Low Cut: removes more inner foreskin, with the scar placed closer to the head of the penis.
Not all men are suitable for both styles, as anatomy can affect the outcome.
Note: We do not recommend high and tight circumcision, as this can leave too much inner skin, which may swell (lymphoedema) or stretch into loose folds over time, causing unsatisfactory results.
Tight vs Loose Circumcision
- Tight Circumcision: removes more foreskin, leaving the skin around the shaft tighter when erect. A very tight circumcision is not recommended to prevent discomfort during erection
- Loose Circumcision: leaves more skin, which may partially cover the head of the penis when flaccid.
However, tight circumcision is not always possible. Men with a significant difference between the size of their penis when flaccid and erect may experience painful erections if too much skin is removed. Our surgeons carefully consider these factors before recommending the best style that suits you.
Alternatives to Circumcision
In some cases, a full circumcision may not be necessary. Our surgeons also provide alternative procedures that treat foreskin problems while preserving the foreskin.
Preputioplasty or Dorsal Slit
- A surgical option for mild to moderate phimosis (tight foreskin).
- Involves a V-Y plasty technique that widens the foreskin opening.
- Preserves the foreskin while improving comfort during erections.
Frenuloplasty
- Suitable for men with a short frenulum (frenulum breve).
- Increases the length of the frenulum and prevents pain or bleeding during sex.
- It can be performed as a standalone procedure or alongside circumcision.
Partial Circumcision
- Removes only part of the foreskin, leaving some skin to cover the glans.
- It may be chosen for personal preference, though it carries a higher risk of future tight foreskin due to scarring.
Medical Treatments
- In selected cases, topical steroid creams or ointments may be used to manage a tight foreskin or early stage of BXO.
- These are usually considered as temporary options, with circumcision offering a longer-term solution.

Aftercare & Recovery
The patient will go home the same day after the circumcision. While some discomfort is normal in the first few days, it is usually well-controlled with simple painkillers like paracetamol or Ibuprofen.
You can drive back home after the circumcision. You can go to office work after 2-3 days or manual work after 2 weeks
Our team provides aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth and quick recovery.
Immediate Care
- Pain Relief: Mild discomfort may persist for a few days and can be managed with simple painkillers.
- Stitches: Absorbable stitches are used. These dissolve naturally within 3 to 4 weeks. Small stitches placed under the frenulum usually dissolve in 3 to 4 weeks.
- Dressings: A light dressing is applied to protect the wound. For glue circumcision, the dressing is usually removed after 3 days.
- Hygiene: Passing urine is usually painless and not affected by the operation. Patients are advised to wear tight underwear for 2–3 days while walking.
- Vaseline: Apply Vaseline to the tip of the penis to prevent the tip from sticking to clothing.
Glue Circumcision Aftercare
If your procedure is performed with the glue method (e.g. Dermabond Advanced™, Derma+flex®):
- Keep the wound dry for three days. No bath or shower for three days
- Do not scratch, rub, or peel the glue. It will fall off naturally as the wound heals.
- You may shower briefly after three days, gently patting the area dry.
- Avoid swimming, soaking, or tanning for 10 days until the adhesive film has completely fallen away.
- Do not apply creams or ointments unless advised by your surgeon.
Healing Time
- Most patients heal within 10–14 days, though full recovery may take slightly longer depending on the technique used.
- Sexual activity should be avoided for 4-6 weeks until healing is complete.
